Technical University Ilmenau, Germany
The TU Ilmenau is the exclusive technical university in the Free State of Thuringia, Germany and stands for a long tradition in the training of engineers in electrical and mechanical engineering. Today her profile includes technology, natural science, business and media. Five faculties offer the current 6,600 students (19,8 % are international students) a promising interdisciplinary program of 19 Bachelor’s and 25 Master’s degree courses in engineering, mathematics and natural sciences as well as economic and social sciences.
The university is characterized by an internationally recognized level of education, a high practice reference, a personal support by the professors and mentors as well as student tutors. In Ilmenau students get early involved in research projects, they complete internships in industry and also deal with non-technical scientific disciplines. Interdisciplinary and across faculties cooperation combined with pooling competences focused on major competitive research fields are especially determining for our university.
For the development of a distinctive research profile with specifically identified topics only dealt with at our university, the Academic Senate of Technical University Ilmenau has decided the determination of main research “Micro and nano systems” and “Intelligent systems engineering and IT” with six research clusters.
Longtime scientific co-operation with states in middle and eastern Europe are part of TU Ilmenau’s tradition. They provide the basis for common student, education and research projects – e.g. German Russian Institute at MEI in Moscow and the German-Russian Institute of Advanced Technologies (GRIAT) in Kazan. Although with partners worldwide, especially in China and Latin America TU Ilmenau works closely together and established a variety of double degree programs. Technical University Ilmenau measures itself at the international top level of university education.
